Legislation that will extend the permissible use of project labor agreements beyond building-based public projects was recently amended to better protect contractors. Working with UTCA, language was adopted at our joint request to ensure that contractors will not be forced to employ workers from unions that have insolvent trust funds. As a result of this amendment, our members will be protected from being pulled into the unfunded pension liabilities of certain unions. The bill is likely to pass both chambers of the Legislature and be signed into law by Governor Murphy.
