May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the U.S. construction industry has a sobering statistic to contemplate. It has the second-highest rate of suicide in the American workforce. Vince Hafeli, president of Ajax Paving (Florida), shares his own story about these tragedies and how his awareness pledge is trying to change the industry and save our fellow employees.
Vince presented his Suicide in Construction Awareness Proclamation at the Florida Transportation Builders Association Construction Conference this past February. He will be travelling with the document to events across the United States, collecting signatures from those who agree we need to encourage open conversations relating to suicide and mental health awareness in our industry.
